Keighley ABC and One in a Million Join Forces to Empower Local Youth Through Boxing

Updated: Mar 26

A partnership between Keighley ABC and the Bradford‑based youth charity One in a Million is transforming the way young people in Keighley access support, structure, and positive role models.

What began as a simple taster session during the February half term has quickly grown into a weekly programme designed to help young people build confidence, resilience, and healthier routines. The initial session - intended as a one‑off introduction to boxing - attracted strong interest and revealed just how much local young people valued a safe, energetic space to connect and grow.

Recognising this need, Keighley ABC and One in a Million developed the idea into a regular weekly group. The sessions now run every Thursday from 6pm to 7pm at Keighley ABC, excluding term time, giving young people a consistent opportunity to stay active and engaged.

The programme blends boxing skills with mentoring and personal development. Coaches and youth workers say the sport provides a powerful outlet, helping participants channel their energy positively while learning discipline, teamwork, and self‑belief.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to investing in Keighley’s young people and strengthening community ties. With momentum building, both organisations are excited to see how the programme continues to grow and how many more young people it can reach.

From a half‑term experiment to a weekly lifeline, the initiative is proving that a pair of gloves and a supportive environment can make a real difference - one session at a time.
